I think a total of 342 people may have had a more special day because of what many people did for them.

We had a drive for homemade Valentine Cards for our area to get cards to the residents of rest homes and assisted living facilities. We received 342 cards we took them to 12 facilities and 45 of those cards also went to some soldiers in Iraq. The 4-H clubs in Hamilton County in Nebraska had made cards for the soldiers. The extension office was able to get them to me to send to our soldiers. A great site to go to if you have something you would like to send some things to our soldiers is AnySoldier .

A big thank you goes out to the 4-Her's, all those who made the cards, church groups, & girl scout troop in Harvard, NE and around our county. Also to Connie Baum for taking cards to the residents in the nursing home in her area.

This is something that all can do for your area and if you are interesting in knowing the details let me know and I would be glad to get a white paper to you that will give you the details.

Renita Farrall

Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas and a wonderful prosperous New Year to you.

It is a white Christmas in a large area of the country. The kids can go sledding and then enjoy a cup of hot chocolate the gifts are unwrapped. Christmas is a fun time of the year, but for many like our soldiers it is a lonesome time being away from family and friends. This year we were able to help 526 men and women have a part of that brought to them by sending them Christmas cards made by Sunday School children, Girl Scout troops, Sororities and school students.

This year we received 526 cards and thanks to a friend on Twitter we found a Website called www.anysoldier.com that has names and addresses of soldiers. The soldier that list his name on the Website sends in periodic updates as to what they have been doing and what their needs are. If you are in need of a project for your group check out this Website www.AnySoldier.com . On their site they tell what to do to prepare the boxes and how to send them.

I do not receive anything for you doing this.

The families of the soldiers that I talked to about sending their loved ones cards are elated that we do something like this for their son/daughter and their unit or platoon. Remember there are soldiers that never receive anything from home so a simple card sure helps.

On the home front we are providing the Dave Ramsey Financial Peace University Course. We did a class August through November and will be starting another one on Jan. 13, 2009. If any of you that live in the Harvard, NE area are interested you certainly are welcome to come an attend. We will have a preview class Jan. 6 at 7 pm at the Harvard Public School. The course will then start on Jan. 13 at 7 p.m. at the Harvard Public School. Would love to have you come. If you have already been to one and would like a refresher course please bring your workbook, that is your free ticket to attend the class. Hope to see you there.

Just a heads up Valentine's Day is fast approaching and we will be doing another drive for homemade cards also. I have cards to send to the soldiers for that also. A 4-H group has done cards for that already. If anyone wants to add to that collection you are certainly welcome to, but normally our Valentine Cards go to area nursing homes.

Blessings to all,

Renita Farrall

Creating Press Releases

Have you done any press releases? So why shouldn't we.

This form of marketing can help to launch your new products, or in my case as a non-profit we can announce fund-raising events and activities, and entertainment companies use press releases to promote the release of everything from games, books, music, and films. So I would say we need to follow what the big boys do, right?

What I am understanding is if the large companies know about this maybe we should follow suit and learn from them, if they get publicity why shouldn't we? Isn't that the best publicity?

Here are the links to the press releases I wrote
I think all that is there are a tavern, the local grain elevator and the big Catholic Church and maybe a few residences.

My brother and sister-in-law live on a beautiful little farm with a few cattle and horses near Imogene. For the last 5 years or so they have been brave about inviting Neil’s extended family to the farm for a day of food and getting caught up on family news as well as horseback riding. A few years ago when this all started the old timers, my brothers and sisters and me all had to refresh our memories of riding horses in our younger days. But this year I noticed only one of us, besides my brother who owned the horses, even got near one.

I was able to ride around with my sister-in-law in her golf-cart. I tore the lisfranc ligament in my right foot this summer; I am on the mend with it and on crutches yet. Veronica gave me a ride in the golf-cart to see what the grandkids and others were doing. That was great together time and we were able to catch up on what was going on in each other’s lives.

Every one had a good time and came home very tired.

Well, I thought everyone had a good time, but as I was writing up the article to put in the local newspaper for the entire world to read I had to call one sister to find out what her son’s address was that was there so I would have the town correct (heaven forbid if I would get that wrong). We was visiting about the weekend and how much fun it was when she dropped the bombshell, I have 2 imperfect granddaughters. Oh, my goodness. I would never have dreamt that in a minute.

To be kind to my sister she was much kinder then that, but I need to have you read this post, right?

Anyway what happened is these 2 nine year olds HOGGED the horses they were riding. They thought they owned them. They would not get off of them and let anyone else ride them. It just happened that one of the horses was the lead horse and whatever that horse did the others did. So if it went to the barn because the person controlling the steering didn’t know how to steer, then the rest of the horses followed much to the dismay of 2 teenage cousins who couldn’t be in control.

This made me think of our lives. Isn’t that what happens in real life. If we aren’t in control of our destiny we complain to someone (our mother in this case) who can’t do anything but tell the next person (the grandmother in this case) who can’t do anything but chose to relay the message onto the fathers or the man in charge of the horses (my brother) who by next year will have forgotten the whole thing.

What is the right thing to do? Should the teenagers have complained immediately to the next in line (fathers) or gone up the line to the person in charge of the horses (my brother)?

What happens in your case? Do you keep your mouth shut until you get home and expound to the person there or do you go directly to the person in charge that could resolve the problem immediately? Most of the time we do the keep quiet thing and then blow up at home and hope the people that messed up know we are upset and then we let it fester and nothing gets done until it is to late and everyone is mad at each other.

It is interesting to see how we all do the same unless we are taught differently. It doesn’t matter if it has to do with horses and kids or business and adults it is all the same.

Just a little something to think about. Have a great day and start to develop your <a href="http://www.1shoppingcart.com/app/?af=760299" onmouseover="window.status='http://www.1shoppingcart.com/app/?af=760299'; return true;" onmouseout="window.status=''; I hope so, I don’t know about all of that, but what I do know is that right after I posted my blogspot post for Christmas Cards for our soldiers I received a phone call.

I have been kind of draggin’ for the last few months not seeming to get anything accomplished (I felt) and this last week it was like I really need to do something, I need to get something moving and now today seems to be the day.

I read and listen and watch trying to figure this Internet thing out and nothing seems to make any difference, but when I give it up and tell myself I need to start moving forward even if it is just one small step then things start to open up.

So what happened today? Well I had been challenged to get something on my blog and send out an email to my list, because of the calls and emails I have received about doing the Christmas Cards and deciding this would be a perfect time with a sort of lag in the calendar for people to get an early start on making their cards, I received a call from the Central City Chamber of Commerce asking me to speak at their luncheon.

I had been to their craft fair a year ago and Nancy, who was in charge, was so impressed with what I was doing that she wanted the Chamber to invite me to one of their luncheons! What perfect timing! This will be good to get their juices flowing with ideas and how they can help.

Oh, now I need to decide what to write and what to say. I am not the best at either so my friend Connie says to come from the heart so I think that is what I will do.

Check out our website http://www.make2tell2.com
But the thing I want to share with you today is that with kids back in school and everyone back at work, there maybe some extra time for you do something worthwhile now.

What am I talking about? Well, it is the middle of September and it won’t be long before the holidays show up on our doorstep. So, while you have a few days yet I thought it would be a good time to get this email out and let you know that this would be a great time for you to start making those Christmas Cards for our soldiers. I have already had a few emails and phone calls asking if I was still doing this and the neat part was a woman called me, because she was getting together with about 4 other ladies in her small town and they were trying to think of a reason to make cards.

Lois remembered seeing me on the local TV news station. She wrote my name and information down (smart lady). Lois decided this would be a great project to do. She called to get the details and she even knows of a soldier that she can get me her name and information so we can send the cards to. Did I say Lois told me maybe 4 times in our conversation how she loves to make cards.

Can you do something like that? Do you have some neighbors or friends that would welcome the idea of getting together for a time of getting reacquainted and doing a good turn at the same time?

Another organization emailed me and asked me to come visit them when they work on their project in Oct. They have done several projects for me in the past and I would love to see them and have some faces to put to the names. Also enjoying a cup of coffee and friendly chat is always fun.

So see what you can do. Get together or do your own and send them to me at :

Make 2 Tell 2
991 Road 325
Harvard, NE 68944

Also, round up some soldiers names and addresses and how many is in their troop. I always need names. Be sure and let the family members know that we will take special care of those names and not give them out.

Have a fun day,

Renita Farrall
Executive Director
That's It, I'm Going to Grandma's!
http://www.make2tell2.com

Share Your Experience

Have you ever thought about volunteering?

Have you done any volunteering?

How did it feel?

Was it worth the time?

Please share with us your experience and thoughts in the comment box.

My latest experience with volunteering has been with the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services. I was blown away when I received a letter and certificate from Governor Dave Heineman and the NDCS Director Robert P. Houston, for supporting the TSCI Self-Betterment Club.

I have been going down to Tecumseh, NE to the state correctional facility to visit the men in the Toastmasters Club and found myself being a volunteer. The blessings that have come from doing this small act are to many to mention. I have learned to love these men that I thought could never be loved and learned that they are as human as the rest of us. They all have feelings and hurts just like us and they appreciate being honored, they want to do good and grow just like we do. They have made mistakes and now are paying the price and some of them are willing to learn and make corrections in their ways so that they can give back when they get out.

To answer my questions:

Have you ever thought about volunteering?
Yes. As far as I knew I was doing it for That's It, I'm Going to Grandma's! but it has been a real blessing to the men and myself. How it backfires is totally amazing.

Have you done any volunteering?
I never thought I did until I recieved the letter and certificate yesterday, but as I think back I have done a lot of it at church by being on boards, helping with meals, going on a mission trip to Russia, helping at school when my kids were in school, working at Vacation Bible School now with my grandkids etc. It can go on forever I am thinking.

How did it feel?
I always seem to enjoy it. I grow and learn new things that I can do. With the prison thing I have never felt so good, even thinking about it now puts a smile on my face and a bounce in my step.

Was it worth the time? Yes, even though with all the other stuff I think I need to do at the time, I can see the growth in myself as well as what I was able to do for the other people involved at the time.

Some volunteering can be as simple as making a card for the soldiers overseas. That time is coming real fast to get Thank You cards send to them by the 4th of July. So get out your paper and crayons and make those cards and send them to me at:
Make 2 Tell 2
991 Road 325
Harvard, NE 68944

Feel free to click on Make 2 Tell 2 to learn more about how you can help send cards to the soldiers overseas.

We look forward to hearing about your experiences.

Many Blessings,

Renita Farrall

Focus! Direct! Ask!

As I look back over 2008 there was much growth and changes in my life. January was the beginning of starting to move "That's It, I'm Going to Grandma's!" along. We started with getting some Valentine Cards made and delivered to the area Nursing Homes. Then we extended that to Thank you cards for our Soldiers. Now I am also working with reading to the young children that come to the Library. We also provide one morning a month for the adults to come in and share what they are reading.

All of this has been a real growing process for me. I am not one that likes to be out in the lime light. I would be happy just sitting at home doing something that no one can see. My growth has really expanded but I have a long ways to go.

Focus is one of the points I need to work on. I notice things seem to get in the way of what I should be doing. So sometimes I need to switch on my windshield wiper and clean the lens so that I can get refocused. When I do this my vision becomes clearer so then I can see more clearly as to the direction I am going.

Direction is another area to work on. I get my compass out and find that most of the time I am headed in the wrong direction, so then I have to do a lot of back tracking to make up for lost time. By keeping my one eye on the compass I can make the right corrections. Different situations create constantly changing. Constantly checking the compass will help me to know if I am heading in the right direction.

Ask! I need to work on asking for assistance when I am in doubt. That will help to clear my perception and refresh it. As I grow I find that it is easier to keep going back to the same old worn out path as I took before. Now it is dawning on me that again I need to get out the windshield washer and clean my lens again to be able to go in a more current direction to fulfill my mission.

Life is always changing, evolving and growing.

Renita Farrall

<link rel='related' href='http://www.thatsitimgoingtograndmas.org' title='Focus! Why? I don't know, other then I just got overwhelmed with other things going on. No excuses. Just me.

For my New Years Resolutions or I am calling them my goals for 2009 I want to change some things. So for the last couple of weeks I have been thinking what it is I want to accomplish for 2009. 2009 represents to me the year of increasing my income of improving myself as a business person and to do what I am going to have to become more proficient in keeping my focus and not letting myself getting sidetracked. I seem to have a tendency to doing that.

I just read an email from Marna Goldstein Thail about goals and I thought they were great so I would like to share them with you. She is a weigh loss coach so the examples relate to that. Whaever your goals are -- make them to fit your situations as I have done for myself.

1. "Focus on what you want. Many people focus on what they don't want. "They don't want fat thighs" - they might say. Say instead "I want thin toned thighs that I am excited to show off."
Renita's Goal- I have a $500/month increase in my income. I am excited to pay off an existing bill.

2. "Write your goals as though they already exist. Write out your goals as if you have already achieved them. Start out by saying, "On March 31st, I'm so happy and grateful now that I am wearing a size 8." Goals that say "I hope" or "I will" or "I want" will keep you hoping, willing, and wanting for the future. You want your goals to be magnetic. "

Renita's Goal- On March 31st, I'm so happy and grateful now that I am writing one blog post each day and an email to my Aweber account each week.

3. "Only set three to five goals. If you set more than five goals, you may be overwhelming yourself. Have a few body goals, a financial goal, a spiritual goal, or whatever area you want
to focus on. Too many goals = distraction.

4. Set goals in a three month time frame. If today is December 31st, set your goal achievement day for three months from now, March 31st. I can work on anything for 12 weeks, but once it becomes 6-12 months, it's just too long and you most likely you will lose focus.

5. Ignite your senses. Take a moment every few days to read at least one goal that really inspires you. Then take one minute and feel this goal as if it has already occurred. Then go further - walk the walk, talk the talk, and BE the person who has accomplished this goal. Your whole physiology will change. If I'm walking around like I'm a size 8 when I'm a size 22, you better believe I'm going to see an immediate shift. The key is to just keep it up."

My Goals are:
1. I have a $500/month increase in my income. I am excited to pay off an existing bill.

2. On March 31st, I'm so happy and grateful now that I am writing one blog post each day and adding one email to my Aweber account each week.

3. On March 31st, I'm so happy and grateful now that I am seeing an increase in children coming to the Library.

4. On March 31st, I'm so happy and grateful now that I am making money online because I was one of Jeff Wellman, Dixie Brown and Paul Counts winners for their free Rapid Cash Marketing coaching.

5. I have received the city building in Harvard for That's It, I'm Going to Grandma's! I am so excited about this because that means to me that the city feels I have something important to offer our community and it gives me exposure to the citizens in Harvard and surrounding area.

I wish you a Happy New Year and much success in 2009.

Renita Farrall

What Are YOUR Possibilities?

Friday, April 18, 2008

Jim Connors and Hastings Mayor, Matt Rossen met with Tracy and Sherry Watson and myself at the hotel for breakfast. We discussed Senator Carlson's legislative bill, LB609, which was passed the day before. The Mayor was excited about this bill. He has been aware of the need for this in his city and it was very exciting for him. As the morning talk continued he offered free office space to "That's It, I'm Going to Grandma's!" I shared with Mayor Rossen about our new project: Make 2 Tell 2. This is a card program for our soldiers overseas. You make 2 cards and tell 2 people to do the same and send the cards to:

Make 2 Tell 2
991 road 325
Harvard, NE 68944

These are homemade cards we will send to our military people, letting them know they are being thought of and prayed for. Side note: We are now doing it for Christmas so please be sure to make your cards and send them to the address above.

At the end of our meeting Jim Connors stressed to me that I need to speak with confidence about the services and programs of "That's It, I'm Going to Grandma's!"

We departed from the hotel and moved on to meet with the Executive Director, Dianne Fowler of the Midland Area Agency on Aging. She was very supportive of "That's It, I'm Going to Grandma's!" and saw true value in bringing the generations together. She could see that it is rooted in and an advocate for "Money Follows the Person" and could be involved in the Nursing Home Transition Project. This is another area we are looking at to get involved in.

She immediately booked me on several of the board's agendas for their meetings to give a presentation!

From there we moved on to the Hastings Public Library, where we met with Library Director, Linda Rae. She was open to bringing new services to the Library. She was especially interested in a Financial Literacy Class. We discussed partnering to provide a class. We discussed several other possibilities with her.

Next we moved on to Grand Island, NE, 25 miles to the North.

There we went to the Center for Independent Living of Central Nebraska, Inc.

Ray Norris, the Executive Director shared with us the services they provide. Their biggest needs at this time are housing and transportation. He said coalitions need to be built. During our visit he offered me the use of their large boardroom at any time. He invited me to their next board meeting to give a presentation about "That's It, I'm Going to Grandma's!"

We moved on to our last destination for the day: Christian Resource Center, outside of Giltner, NE. This is the day camp where my pastor and his wife, Paul and Kathy Nauman, provide many resources for the youth of the surrounding area. They gave us several recommendations and offered their facilities for any classes that we may have.

Then it was a straight shot to our house to pick up my husband to head to a wonderful restaurant in the area for a great prime rib supper. On our way, we had to give them a tour of our great metropolis Harvard, NE, population 998. At the restaurant we discussed and shared with my husband the day's events.

"Just a farmer's wife" couldn't believe what all had transpired in a 10-hour day. First, being offered a free city office in a city that I am not even a resident of and then another offer to use a board room in another facility and another city! We were even offered classroom space not far from home! It was almost more than I could handle. Besides, it was an eye-opening and overwhelming opportunity to see what was ahead for "just a farmer's wife."

These are all possibilities that can happen when you are connected with the right people and desiring to make a difference in the lives of people.

The following quote sums up everything that has happened and will happen in the future for me:
"A true friend knows your weaknesses but shows you your strengths; feels your fears but fortifies your faith; sees your anxieties but frees your spirit; recognizes your disabilities but emphasizes your possibilities." - William Arthur Ward (American dedicated scholar, author, editor, pastor and teacher)

Thanks, Sherry Watson , for showing me these possibilities.

Renita Farrall

Where are you on YOUR legacy adventure?

We Interrupt This Posting for a Special Announcement:

Grandma’s Story received the ‘Blog of the Day Award’ on Sunday!
You see the button on the left hand side click on it and it will take you to the Blog of the Day website. It will explain to you how to nominate your favorite blog for the award.

This award was a complete surprise even though I knew my friend Connie Baum had nominated this website for the award. I never gave a thought that it would happen so it was a very pleasant surprise to see it when I got home from a rather eventful weekend.

Now it is time to pick up where we left off with the last post.

After our Hastings Chamber of Commerce 'After Hours' event. We continued on to a restaurant for supper-dinner, for most of you. Mr. Jim Connors joined Sherry and Tracy and my husband, Jerry and me.. While we were getting acquainted, Sherry asked me to share with Jim what my program was all about. I gave him my mind map and a couple of flyers that I had with me that explained it better then I could tell it.

He looked them over and then looked up from the table and looked me square in the eye and said, “Renita, do you know what you have here?” That scared me. I said, “I am not sure what you mean by that.” He proceeded to say “This is huge, this is what is needed, this is going to be big.” I was in awe. I was really scared. I thought, “What have I done? What has this “just a farmer’s wife” gotten herself into?” He then turned to me and asked me, “What can I do for you?”

Jim Connors is a man of high caliber, he is a businessman; he has done many things. I gulped several times and in a weak voice said “I feel like I am going to need a mentor.” Jim said “you’ve got it.” I was stunned beyond believe. Sherry gave me a hug.

Sherry told me that Jim calls her “the most effective train wreck he has ever met” and she said “now you will join me with that.” We all had a good laugh over that.

We had a great meal and learned a ton of information from both Sherry and Jim.

After supper I rode with Sherry and Tracy back to the hotel to pick up my vehicle and Sherry turned to me and said “Renita do you know what you just did?” “NO!” I said.
She said you just received free mentorship from a man who charges $______ for his services to anyone else.” I was really shaking by that time. I knew then that I could not waste his time on frivolous stuff. I would need to glean much good information from him.

Needless to say, I was overwhelmed with what had happened from the whole day.
Here is the recap:
1. Meeting and having the Leading Grant Expert taking me around the Capitol City and introducing me to my Senator and teaching me how to gain information.
2. Meeting with the Mayor of Hastings, NE and the Hastings President of the Chamber of Commerce.
3. Meeting and being mentored by Jim Connors who is Managing Partner of the Governance and Goals Gurus Consulting Team and very influential in his area of expertise.
4. Learning that I have a tiger by the tail as far as ‘That’s It, I’m Going to Grandma’s!” is concerned.
5. Realizing that when you hobnob with the gurus you will learn from them and, hopefully--someday soon become one.

We still have one more day to learn about. So come back and expect to hear about another day with Leading Grant Expert Sherry Watson

Renita Farrall

Are you developing your legacy if not click here and get started.

Are YOU Determined?

"You cannot keep determined people from success. If you place stumbling blocks in their way, they will use them for stepping-stones and climb to new heights." -Mary Kay Ash (1918–2001)Saleswoman and entrepreneur

Dixie Brown personifies this quote. She is transforming those of us in her Mastermind group and who are determined to succeed. I can see all of us being determined enough to use the stumbling blocks to get to those new heights.

I would like to share with you what happened in the last half of April of 2008 with Sherry Watson.

When you are part of The Power of Grant Money program, as I am with many others, you get some really unique privileges. I will share one of those with you here.

I had reached the point in my grassroots nonprofit organization that it was time for Sherry to come to my state to show me what can make things really work. It is all about putting yourself out there and letting people know who you are and what your plans are, and asking them what you can do to help them, in other words, get yourself and your story in front of influential people and show them how you can also help them move forward.

Remember, we were dealing with "just a farmers wife." Sherry came on a Wednesday. She and her husband like to stay in the same town as their client. Not in Harvard, the hotel collapsed in the spring of 1973. They stayed in a nearby town called Hastings. On Thursday I met them at the motel for breakfast. We then proceeded to Lincoln, the State Capitol, to meet with different agencies. Our first stop was at the Agency on Aging for the State of Nebraska. That was very impressive. The gentleman that we met with was very informative and gave Sherry a lot of information. I, on the other hand, had no clue what questions to ask. I just sat there and let Sherry do the talking and the asking. This was a learning time for the student. She was teaching me by example the whole time.

Next we go over to the Capitol building. How long has it been since you have been to your State Capitol? I was probably in the 4th grade the last time I visited. I just didn't think that that was 'my thing'-aside from admiring the beautiful arthitecture. It was there we met with Senator Tom Carlson, who represents our district. I remembered meeting him while he was campaigning for office. I was sitting outside with my dad when he came to the Assisted Living, where my parents lived at the time. He introduced himself to us and told us what he was doing.

The day in April we visited our landmark Capitol building, happened to be one of the most historic days in Nebraska's history. We were informed when we got to Senator Carlson's office that his bill LB 609 had just past! We had no clue as to what that bill was about.

I'll tell you more about that later...

The the next thing we learned was that this was the day that "Term Limits" was started. That meant 3 of Nebraska's State Senators would be ousted because the public voted for the "Term Limits" bill. That didn't mean much at the time, but as our stay continued, I learned a lot about our government and how it runs. One of the senators who was affected by this passage was Senator Ernie Chambers from Omaha. Senator Chambers served our state for 38 years. He has been a very out spoken senator, to say the least. I was under the impression that no one liked him, especially the other senators. What I learned on that eventful day was that he had the respect of all the people in the state capital. I was in total shock. We went to see his office but it was locked.

By that time it was noon and we found a wonderful place to eat in the Haymarket. We rested and planned our afternoon.

After lunch we moved on to the League of Human Dignity. I learned that Sherry worked with the gentleman who started this nonprofit organization. Sherry and Mark Schultz worked on many of the handicap issues along with others that are in place today.

Since Mark wasn't in the office at the time that we were in Lincoln, Sherry accepted the invitation to visit with his assistant. I wanted to be a professional person by this time and found that that was getting more impossible as the assistant droned on... the heat in the little office was making us all sleepy. With 4 of us in there, combined with the fact that we had just came from lunch was not good. Finally, after what seemed like hours, the assistant volunteered to get some material for us to look at and then we all woke up, ran for the coffee and had a good laugh because we all had our own story of how we tried to stay awake. Tracy, I did see you almost fall off your chair though!

I was really learning from Sherry, she shared with me about the different structures of buildings and how you can get money to help with your offices and sometimes your office space just shows up out of the clear blue if people know and like what you are doing. She got her office space from the Railroad Company, for her first nonprofit, when they were merging with another and they were closing the office there. They gave it to her for $1! Everything was left as is. She had all the trimmings. So, you never know how it will come.

From there we started our trek home. This was where Sherry and I were able to read through the material that we had picked up along the way and start digesting it. Did I mention we were being chaperoned by Sherry's husband Tracy?

We started reading through the brochure of Senator Tom Carlson about LB 609. As I was reading, I couldn't believe my eyes. I said to Sherry, "this is everything that I want to do!" We started picking through it and found out that there is a grant connected to it! It as been working in other towns so we got more excited! Sherry shared with me how we need to work closely with Senator Carlson's office to get out there and help him to get the people informed.

The whole legislative bill was centered around Building Entrepreneurial Communities. This will support economically depressed rural areas of Nebraska. I had no idea there was anyone else out there thinking about the same thing.

From there we got back to Hastings and proceeded to the Hastings Chamber of Commerce 'After Hours' event. We met up with Mr. Jim Connors who is a Managing Partner of the Governance and Goals Gurus Consulting Team. At the social he introduced us to the President of the Chamber of Commerce and the Mayor of Hastings, Matt Rossen. Jim arranged for us to meet the next morning with the Mayor Rossen to discuss possibilities of LB609.

All the stumbling blocks that I had to go across has been well worth it to this point.

Stay tune for the next post because we aren't finished yet we still have supper and the next day to start defining who That's It, I'm Going to Grandma's! will become.

That's It,

Renita Farrall

Are you planning your legacy?

Is THIS a Learning Curve, or WHAT?

April 2008

"Diamonds are only lumps of coal that stuck to their jobs.”

B.C. Forbes, Scottish journalist, Founder of Forbes Magazine
(1880-1954)

I am like a lump of coal on its way to becoming a diamond. That is exactly what it felt like! Things were moving really fast and I had no way to stop or control it.

April turned out to be as wild as a March hair!

Much was being accomplished, thanks to my weekly calls with Brett and my daily calls with Dixie Brown.

Even my husband got into the act! He let me record him reading aloud ’The Velveteen Rabbit’ so we can put the audio on ‘Grandma’s’ website!

Here’s what I learned:

How to make a ‘squeeze page’ on the web.

How to write articles.

I should start talking to people about Make 2 Tell 2.

How to make interview questions for Sherry Watson and others.

Sherry and her husband, Tracy, would be coming to stay for a
few days. They would take me around to get acquainted with contacts.

How to edit a recording.

I don't believe I have shared with you about “Make 2 Tell 2 .” This project is a key part of "That's It, I'm Going to Grandma's!" It all got started after the Valentine's Day Drive when we wanted to keep the card project going. The next holiday was July 4. We decided we could invite people to make cards for the soldiers overseas. We could send the cards to Iraq and Afghanistan. WE DID IT! Now we have sent over 5 packets so far. I have received a very special letter rom one of the soldiers. They were very appreciative of all the cards.

You are welcome to join in on the fun of making cards and telling 2 people. All you have to do is go to Make 2 Tell 2 and fill out your name and email address and you will get my emails.

My friend, Connie, lives in Tecumseh, Nebraska, where one of Nebraska’s state correctional facilities is located. She sponsors the Toastmaster Club inside the prison. She informed the club members, inmates, about "That's It, I'm Going to Grandma's!" She also told them about Make 2 Tell 2 and they fell in love with the idea. They wanted to do their part to give back to their country's service men. Some of these men are veterans who have served our country so they are very aware of what our soldiers are going through.

There is too much to say in just one post, so stay tuned for the next installment, where I will share with you about Sherry's visit.

What did the inmates do? You will have to wait until June's update for that.

While you are waiting for my next post, Click here to learn more about The Power of Grant Money.

That's It,

Renita Farrall
Are you developing your legacy?

Are you ready for The Power of Grant Money?

As I said earlier Sherry has built a wonderful business of training people on the workings of grants.

Another thing she has done is to build up the people who take her training.

She has taken "just a farm wife" and made her feel like a "rock star"!

She did that by putting 'the farm wife' on a panel. Now I knew I would be on a panel, but I never ask any questions. I just worried. "What do I wear?" "What do I say?" " Am I going to speak so people can understand what "That's It, I'm Going to Grandma's!" is about?" All kinds of things were going through my mind.

The big day came when I was told I was going to be on the panel. Thank goodness for Coach Dixie Brown! She had prepared a slide show for me that featured my business card and the story of the Valentine Cards. It was a short 4 picture slide.

Sherry's son Aaron, was the MC for the panel. They had 4 nice looking young men that was all dressed as if they were millionaires and then there was the "farmers wife" dressed in all demin!

Aaron interviewed the young men first and as I listened I was thinking "okay, how do I answer that question?" Everyone had such nice professional answers. Aaron finally got to me.

"Take a deep breath," I thought to myself. "Okay. Whew! I got the first question answered. " Then it was time for the slide show. I was taking them through it and noticed the audience was actually listening. The question period ended.

One of the young men on the panelists spoke up: "Did anyone hear the passion coming from Renita's heart? That is what the secert for our projects is all about. To get them accomplished is to have that same passion. We need passion that you can feel and translate and Renita just did that."

That just floored me because I was just telling the story. Passion was beyond me, I had no idea about passion. I didn't know what my passion was and here he was hearing it coming from me.

I get tears writing this because to me I was just sharing with them about what I wanted to happen, what had happened to me taking those Valentine Cards to the nursing home residents.

Another thing that Sherry does at her trainings is bring a student in that has gotten their nonprofit organization up and running big time. In March she did that in a very big way. One of her students is Orrin Hudson. You may have seen and heard about him. He has been on all the TV networks talking about his Chess program "Be Someone." He is phenomenal! He was a State Trooper before he started doing this and his dream was to help turn troubled kids lives around and teach them the game of life.

Here is the headline: "Youth advocate Orrin Hudson teaches life skills to troubled kids through the game of chess." His website is Besomeone.org. Go take a look. Seeing what he has done may inspire you.

Please feel free to leave your comments. When you click on Orrin's links please let him know how you learned about him. We also learn how to write grants. We learned the process to understand where to look for grants.

The Power of Grant Money is building their business so they will have many areas covered to help people receive grants and have an organization up and running.

They have grant writers

A real estate company to help with knowing how to accept real estate donations for your 501 (c)3 organization.

They have coaches as I have been talking about, who help to educate grant seekers to meet your needs, giving you amazing ideas and direction.

They provide the "heavy lifting" of getting all the paper work done, helping with the budget, IRS filing, State documents, etc.

They have trainings every 3 - 4 months for you to attend.

Sherry Watson is considered the The Leading Grant Expert , because she has been on both sides of the grants. She has been a recipient as well as the person deciding where the grant money should go.

She worked in Washington D.C. for 15+ years. "Sherry has designed and launched 6 successful business...and has generated over $20 million in grant money."

Sherry had a severe accident that moved her into the realm of grants and through that she was elected to go to Washington D.C. to speak for the disability community. She was one of visionaries that brought about the handicap facilities that we have today. She laid down on the street in front of buses to help make a statement that the bus lines needed to improve their buses to make them more handicap accessible.

Here is what Sherry told me she said to Retired Senator Chambers of Nebraska, who happens to be a black man: "Even though you once had to sit at the back of the bus, you could at least get onto the bus, but we disabled people can't even board the bus." That woke him up and he started helping the disabled community.

She has had Jim Brady, who was shot while protecting President Reagan, help to educate her in the workings of Washington D.C. She has worked with Bill and Melinda Gates and knows what you need to do to talk to these people to get them on board with your projects. She is one person you want in your corner if you are going to have a successful organization to implement grants and fundraising.

"Although I had a tragic accident, I found my purpose in life. I learned how to design programs using Grant Money that changed people's lives in a powerful way. The success stories and testimonials can not be measured in dollars alone. I will teach you how to get Grant Money so that you can experience this same success, whether it's financially, or finding your purpose in life and turning your dream into a reality."

--Sherry Watson

Did I mention that Sherry is a remarkable woman? She is remarkable not for what she has been through but for what she has done in spite of her disabilities. It makes me feel ashamed to think, "I could never do this."

Sherry Watson has been a real inspiration for me.

Thank you Sherry, from the bottom of my heart!

I am not finished recounting this remarkable weekend, folks, so I'm inviting you to come back tomorrow to hear more about the training with Sherry Watson.

Renita Farrall

Are you living your legacy?

Will You Be My Valentine

February 2008. What an exciting month!

Valentines Day is always a fun time. This year I had more fun then ever before. I was privileged to deliver some Valentine greeting cards to some very special people. You would have thought I was the one on the receiving end. Let me tell you a little bit about how it all happened.

I discovered that our local Christian Radio Station was not going to sponsor their usual Valentine Card drive for the year. I called the radio station about it and they agreed that "That's It, I'm Going to Grandma's!" could conduct drive for our area. In only 2 short weeks we collected 244 beautiful homemade Valentine cards for 6 area nursing homes and 2 assisted living facilities!

The exhilaration was running high. It was such a rewarding feeling to do something like that. I couldn't stop smiling and talking on Feb. 14th the day of delivery. You would have thought I was the one receiving the cards.

It was very rewarding to know that we were touching the lives of others who may not be getting any mail at all. At least not "feel-good" mail.

The rest of the month was spent getting the website up and running for "That's It, I'm Going to Grandma's!" This was also an exciting time for me. I had never had a website that I could say was my own and to see how it turned out I was very pleased.

I then had to create my business cards, because my husband and I were going to travel to Albuquerque, New Mexico for The Power of Grant Money training. Coach Dixie was a tremendous resource in getting those cards printed.

This was a special time for me because organizers wanted me to sit on a panel in order to share with the audience what I have been doing. Sherry Watson was pleased with what had been accomplished because this project is so grassroots. None of the other people they have worked with had a grassroots organization and she was excited about it. I was terrified of speaking in public as a panelist. Remember, I was living in the "I am just a farm wife" zone. I didn't feel I had the know-how to do any of that.

I don't want to get ahead of myself and spoil the mystery. I'll sign off here so you have to come back tomorrow to see what happened in Albuquerque, NM... ...

Did I say it was an exciting month? Did I mention the excellence of The Power of Grant Money?

Renita Farrall

Are you living your legacy?

Am I Really Doing the Impossible?

"First do what is necessary. Then do what is possible. And all of a sudden you are doing the impossible." ~ St Francis of Assisi

In January of 2008 I felt as if I were doing the impossible! There we were, beginning a new year and I felt like I was full throttle ahead. After sharing with Coach Dixie it seemed like things started moving on the fast track.

Here's how events unfolded:

By the middle of the month I was going to my first nonprofit meeting to see how they do things.

Then it was working on the 1023.

Getting my E.I.N. (Employers Identifation Number).

Working on the budget, which I thought was another impossible task.

On January 17th I found myself attending an Executive Luncheon.

January 29th we had our first Board of Directors meeting with The Leading Grant Expert Sherry Watson and her team. We spent that time approving the Bylaws and getting all questions answered.

On the 31st I typed up the board meetings and called Church Ministers in the area about our first project of "That's It, I'm Going to Grandma's!"

Renita Farrall

What are you doing to create your Legacy?

Moving Forward and Leaving Fear Behind

"One can choose to go back toward safety or forward toward growth. Growth must be chosen again and again; fear must be overcome again and again." -Abraham Maslow 1908-1970 Psychologist

This quote really spoke loudly to me as I was wanting to go back towards safety, but knowing that I would never grow, helped me to gradually move the fear aside. It has been a slow process, but I am much less fearful today then I was one year ago.

We started working on the mission statement. The following is what we came up with at this point in Nov. 2007: To provide programs and services that foster family and community interaction; while striving to preserve family life.

Accomplishments being made:

The Articles of Incorporation was being worked on by Coach Brett and the concept page was starting to be build.

Mailed in the application for Reservation of Corporate name.

Got the Bios of the new directors to be sent to Coach Brett.

Most of the above was the "heavy lifting" that The Power of Grant Money did for me.

Nov. and Dec. was kind of quite for me with That's It, I'm Going to Grandma's! I still had not told anyone. Not even Jeff Wellman and Dixie Brown because I didn't know what their reaction would be. I was learning about affiliate marketing from them.

The end of Dec. around the 30th was when I got brave and shared with Dixie about That's It, I'm Going to Grandma's! She totally surprised me with saying "that is what I want to do!" I had shared with her my plans of what I wanted to do within That's It, I'm Going to Grandma's! and her response was so overwhelming I couldn't believe what I was hearing. Dixie shared with me that that follows right along with what she would like to do.

The following email tells you how I felt after talking to Dixie:

Hi Brett,

I just got off the phone from talking to my coach and she told me about a gentleman that she just talked to the other night after talking to me about the grant program and she found out that this man who is doing things on the Internet is totally blind and so she wanted to share with me how we need to do something to make it possible for the handicap to be able to function on the Internet. She is now working with him on how he can jazz up his website to make it more interesting for people.

this is so unbelievable what just telling one person can do. I am so pumped right now being able to believe that we can start to make a difference in peoples lives.
This is so huge.
I love it.
Renita Farrall

I think you can see on Dec. 31, 2007 was the point when my whole mood and feelings started changing. January is coming.!

The Fall of '07 and the Rise of Grandma?

Email entry for Oct. 15th: I sure feel better about all of this now. And I feel I am definitely taking a chance with our finances.

I am sure you can see from the previous emails what a state of uncertainty I was in at this time.

I was desperately searching for something that would make me some income until I could get That's It, I'm Going to Grandma's! up and running. I came across a website that spoke to me. It was about Jeff Wellman who worked on a dairy farm and how he found a way on the Internet to make money. I decided to see if he could help me and with his guarantee I decided to buy his program. Then after a day or 2 I got buyers' remorse. I felt so guilty that I decided I shouldn't have done it. I called him and he said he would return my money to me but he would like for me to listen to the conference call he would be hosting the next night. I agreed.

I was very distraught by this time. I did get on the call and wasn't going to say anything. But Jeff wouldn't let me just sit and listen he made me talk. Jeff recommended that we join his Mastermind groups that he was putting together. I listened to that call and met a lady by the name of Dixie Brown.

Dixie called me the next day. She asked me some questions and we partnered from there. I have been working with Dixie and learning about the Internet from this phenomenal coach. ever since.

Dixie and Jeff have become some very special people in my life and I am very grateful for each of them, as you will learn with the ongoing posts. Their participation has been a big and positive influence in That's It, I'm Going to Grandma's!

Maybe it's a good thing I was so scared. I was rejected by 2 and 2 more surprised me with "Yes, I think that is needed." I was in total shock and surprise. I thought WOW! This is better then any Multi Level Marketing enterprise. I never got anyone there to say 'yes.' I guess when you have that passion behind you it really does make a difference. My husband said he would be the 3rd member.

Oct 12 a great email from Coach Brett from the Power of Grant Money: From your message I sense that you are still apprehensive about what you are doing. You continue to feel the way that all individuals who are starting a new organization feel.....uncertainty. It is your passion that moves you forward! Hold on to your passion. You are creating a program that will support children and families as they strive to better themselves.

... Keep moving forward with passion, allow individuals to consider what you have asked...
You can have a list of individuals that may be resources for your project. Board possibilities, volunteers, group leaders, bakers (for cookies at Grandma's).....and develop your initial program to begin to establish structures.

Each time you share you project with others, you are "practicing". You are stiving to be more comfortable talking about you passion, you are sharing your passion with others in the community. You are practicing and you are making connections.
You are moving Forward!!

I have one last email I want to share with you to show you just how supportive my coaches were to me. This will be the last one for this post and then tomorrow's post will be to finish October's events.

Thanks for your emails. I have stayed quiet this week because I have felt the need for you to stay committed to your mission. It's never easy, and certainly there are periods of discomfort in pursuing your goal, but if you are truly committed the "universe" will provide the means for you to get there.

As the beautifully framed picture that I've had on my office wall for many years of a famous, extremely challenging golf hole tells me daily "If you think you can.....or you think you can't....you're right"

My advice is really pretty simple. Recognize that you are on the right path and commit to it. Once you commit the universe rallies to help you. And once you truly commit you don't have the demons confronting you of "I can't", "I'm not sure", "This isn't working today", and the like.....

I'm v-glad that you have had some success lately but...

Recognize Renita, that there will be severe, emotional ups and downs........it's part of everybody's life when they decide to move beyond their comfort zone. The trick is to not really pay any attention to the highs or the lows.......just stay focused on the objective.

Understand that the process is hard........for all of us......but the end result makes it all worthwhile.

You are on the correct path, make your vision a reality, and we are here to help you but realize there is only so much that we can do.....whether you accomplish this (or not)....it's really up to you.

All the best, Gary Nichols

Gary also said something very profound to me and that was that "he has worked with farmers in his area of expertise and the 2 toughest things that anyone can do, in his opinion, is farm and raise kids." I said, "Well I have done both, so if that is true why am I so worked up about doing a not-for-profit business?" That has helped me to keep pushing and moving forward in this.

I hope this post helps you to keep moving forward and know that we all have our ups and downs but there is light on the other side, I think! I am getting closer to it though.
My passion drives me. The encouragement is the fuel that keeps me going.

Renita Farrall

What is my Not-for-Profit going to be!

Good evening from the state of Nebraska. It has been rainy so was a great day for making 2 pumpkin pies. My son had used some pumpkins for target practice last fall. With all of the rain we had in the spring one of the seeds decided to sprout so now we have 2 pumpkins one of which I cut up and baked yesterday. Received a gallon of pulp from that pumpkin and of course hubby thought he needed a pie. So a pie he will get tonight.

Being a mom and grandma the above is part of my legacy, but as I have done in the first two posts, I would like to continue bringing you up to date with what I am working on for my not-for-profit legacy.

We will go back to Sept. 2007. If you haven't been able to tell the last half of the year, I was very distraught over what in the world I would be doing for a legacy. If "this farmwife" could even do anything! I was a total wreck. If that wasn't enough I was also on the mission board of our church.

September was the month for our Mission Conference. At the first of the year I had suggested that we invite some missionaries from California to come and speak. The missionaries were people that Eunice (a friend) and I had met in 1992 when we went to Russia on a mission trip with Josh McDowell's; "More Than a Carpenter." Dr. Jim and Laurel Carlson was 2 people on that trip. We were in the same group that went to Tallinn, Estonia.

In Tallinn was this beautiful church with a 40 foot steeple. The pastor of the church spoke to our group and mentioned that there was a need for christian radio. The steeple on the church could be used to put the antenna on in place of the KGB antenna that was already there. To make a long story short, Jim and another gentlemen in the group took on the challenge and from there The European Christian Radio Project was born.

Jim a Medical Doctor who had no previous knowledge about the workings of a radio station, and this other gentleman who own a radio station or 2 in the Pennsylvania area decided to make this project theirs. After a few months the gentleman from Penn. decided to bowed out of the project. Jim and Laurel have taken this project and have set up 5 radio stations in Estonia that broadcast across Russia and into many other countries. Now with a big transmitter that they just installed in one of the radio facilities they will be able to broadcast across most of Europe.

We invited Jim and Laurel to come to speak at our mission conference. They stayed in our home. I had the opportunity to question Jim about how he continued with the project without the other gentleman's participation. He shared with me that he just knew that it was the Lord's leading and it was God who would provide. In which he has. He just had a sense of knowing that it was right.

Boy did that ever mess me up. I thought, "I don't know what direction God wants me to go! What is wrong with me?"

The conference was over, the next day Eunice and I drove the Carlson's to Omaha to catch the plane. On the way to Omaha Eunice shared with them what she had been doing and all the time I thought "I do not want to do that. Been there done that, I don't want to do that!" (She was working with children who had severe family problems.)

We got them delivered to the airport and said our good byes and heading home I said to Eunice, " If I tell you something will you not laugh or tell me I can't do it?" She promised me she wouldn't do either. You see, up to this point I had not told anyone about what I was doing. Scared to death someone would say "you idiot what do you think you are doing? How are you going to accomplish that?" I proceeded to tell her my thoughts and asked her if she knew anyone I could talk to about it. She gave me the number of her CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) director.

The next day, at 10 in the morning I started calling the CASA director. She told me I needed to call so and so and that led to another call of someone else and this kept up until about 4 p.m. when I talked to a lady at a nearby hospital. By that time I knew what I did not want!

I finally said to the lady, "what is not out there that is needed." She thought a minute and said "there is nothing for the middle and upper class people." Then my brain was really going and I said "well what if we would have a place for whole families to come in times of stress?" She liked that. (At one time a social worker had said we need respite care for the children whose families are going through stressful times but were unqualified for the state programs.)

The lady also suggested that I call it something like Grandma's Place. 'I was off to the races!' I got busy trying to think of a name because Grandma's Place was all over the Internet and it was a day care. I didn't want to do day care!

So, "That's It, I'm Going to Grandma's!" was born.

Renita Farrall

How Can I Create?

Good evening! It was another beautiful day in Nebraskaland.

Aug. 2007, was my first call with the Queen of Grants, who always wears purple. She shared with my husband and me about her program and how we could get our Legacy started. My husband was very apprehensive about this whole thing.

We decided to do it! I was off to the races to get my legacy up and running.

I started out with 3 men coaches. Wow!

The first thing was for me to figure out what it was I wanted to develop, to visualize my dream and see it all the way through. I would take it from start to finish. Then I could add the extras.

As I said in the first post, I was mainly thinking about the unwed parents and children. At that point that was my focus.

My fear was starting to set in BIG TIME! I kept thinking and saying, "I can't do this. I am just a farmer's wife. I have never done anything like this before. How can I do this?" I kept beating myself up for getting myself in such a program, how did I ever think I could do something like this? I thought they were to do the "heavy lifting!" Sure didn't feel like it.

Fear was #1 here. It was my biggest obstacle.

I flew to New Mexico for a training and I was a real basket case by then, because I didn't think I could do this. In fact, I was convinced that there was no way and I would tell them to forget it and give me my money back. On the plane a fine gentleman who managed 8 manufacturing plants in the Midwest sat beside me. As we visited I shared with him what I was doing. He said "Renita, in 3 months you will not believe how far you have come, keep going and you will surprise yourself."

I was still upset. But the people at the training were marvelous. My head coach, Brett, gave me a hug and said "Renita how do we eat an elephant? One bite at a time." Ok got it!

On the 15th of Aug. I wrote in my journal "I am going to do this if it takes my whole being to make it work." I worked on my assignment for the next 2 weeks and got the doors slammed shut in my face. Okay, can't go that direction.
Now what do I do?

Renita Farrall

What is going to be your legacy?

What Will Your Legacy Be?

Have you ever thought about what you would leave as a legacy? Would the legacy be for your family or for all mankind?

What does legacy mean anyway:

Legacy means "1. money or other property left to a person by will; bequest. 2. Something that has been handed down from an ancestor or predecessor. Books are the legacies that a great genius leaves to mankind." By Thorndike/Barnhart

I have challenged myself with what mark or legacy I will leave behind.

The thought of a legacy prompted me to start a not-for-profit organization called That's It, I'm Going to Grandma's!." This organization was founded on the principle of giving to others. Reaching out of your comfort zone, extending a hand to others by sharing our individual talents and gifts for the greater good of all.

Ask yourself what difference you can make? What will be your legacy? Do you want to leave money, a book or perhaps challenge yourself to start changing the world around you?

I sat and pondered about it. My first thought was I would like to help both unwed mothers and fathers make a difference in their children's lives. The next step was to develop the strategies to which I could help. Actually, I am using the word I but it should be WE.

While attending a seminar, I shared my thoughts on the legacy I wanted to leave. The presenter recognized the passion in my heart and encouraged me to step up to the plate and be an action taker and make it happen. I visited with the presenter about my thoughts and she saw something in me. It wasn't what I was sharing with her but it was what was in my heart. So she encouraged me to go for it and she said she would work with me and help me make "whatever" happen. She told me "they would do the heavy lifting".

I went for it not knowing what I was getting myself into, so here I am making it happen.

Renita Farrall

What is going to be your legacy?
